![]() ![]() ![]() Microsoft Windows: Fonts available to the system are displayed in the Fonts control panel.UNIX: On most systems, the xlsfonts utility displays a list of fonts available to the operating system.Use one of the following operating-system specific methods to determine which fonts are available: To determine which device fonts are available on your system and the exact font strings to specify for each, use the GET_FONTNAMES keyword to the DEVICE Procedure. (In this case, a “graphics device” can be a Direct Graphics device as specified by the DEVICE routine.) While device fonts may include fonts only available because a particular piece of hardware knows how to draw characters in that font (a pen plotter is an example of a device that may still have its own special fonts), in most cases device fonts are fonts supplied by the operating system to any application that may want to use them. We use the term “device font” to refer to a font that is available to one of IDL’s graphics devices from a source other than IDL itself. For example, many computers now use font management software like Adobe Type Manager to manage the fonts made available by the operating system to all applications. These graphics displays generally came with a set of fonts built-in when IDL asked the device to display characters in a built-in font, it was making a request to the hardware to display those characters.Īs computer displays have become more sophisticated, the concept of fonts provided “by the hardware” has expanded to include fonts provided by the computer’s operating system, or by font-management software. This is because in the early days of IDL, computer displays were either text-only terminals or dedicated graphics display devices such as plotters or Tektronix graphics terminals. In past releases of IDL, we have used the term “ hardware fonts” extensively to discuss these types of fonts. The IDL along with the Bureau of Land Management has responsibilities maintaining private forests and timber consumption and production.Device, or hardware, fonts are fonts that are provided directly by your system’s hardware or by software other than IDL. The IDL heavily manages the harvest of timber on the state endowment trust forest lands. Timber management is the main income for the endowment trust. Private landowners are assisted by Private Forestry Specialists and harvest operators in order to keep forest protection laws in check and private sections of forests maintained. Timber assets are managed for the benefit and funding towards public schools and other beneficiaries. Hundreds of professionals are employed by the IDL and are a part of the forestry related field. Recreational dredge mining is regulated by the Stream Channel Protection Act administered by the Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR). The IDL does not regulate recreational suction dredge mining. ![]() The IDL does not regulate patented and non-patented mining claims. The IDL does regulate surface mining and the surface effects of underground mining in the state of Idaho. Forest Service, and the Idaho State Fire Plan Working Group. The IDL works in coordination with two timber protective associations, U.S. The IDL also provides services for families to help cope with losses due to forest fire. The IDL is responsible for the fire protection and conservation of state and private forest lands. The IDL works for the protection of more than 6 million acres of land. These returns help fund Idaho public schools and other state institutions.ĭifferent duties under the IDL include the forestry program, fire program, mining industry regulations, and the Idaho oil and gas conservation commission. The Idaho Department of Lands staffs 16 offices and manages 2.5 million acres under a constitutional mandate on State Trust Lands to maximize long term returns. IDL operates under the Idaho State Board of Land Commissioners and is the administrative arm of the Idaho Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. IDL oversees forestry practices on state lands and some regulation of mining practices, as well as administering forestry programs and providing fire protection and prevention on state lands. The Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) is a state-level government agency of Idaho that manages State Trust Lands. David Groeschl, Deputy Director, State Forester.
